Western Connecticut State has posted an opening for head football coach on D3jobs.com, signaling the end of John Burrell's 10-year tenure with the Colonials.

The Colonials have struggled, losing 21 consecutive games, and have won just four games over the past four seasons. They have gone 24-56 overall in eight seasons since joining the New Jersey Athletic Conference, 13-49 in conference play.

Burrell came to Western Connecticut as a graduate assistant in 1996. From 1997 through 1999, he was the defensive backs coach and spent one season as the special teams coordinator. Before his promotion to head coach, Burrell spent two years as the lone full-time assistant to former NFL assistant coach and current Princeton head coach Bob Surace.
