SALEM, Va. -- Michael Zweifel was named the winner of the 2011 Gagliardi Trophy in a ceremony at the Salem Civic Center on Wednesday night, Dec. 14.
Zweifel, who is the all-time leading receiver in Division III football history and leads all collegiate receivers in receptions, accepted his trophy in front of fans from his hometown, Whitewater, Wis., as well as a large contingent that flew out from the University of Dubuque.
Zweifel beat out fellow finalists Matt Blanchard of UW-Whitewater, Alex Tanney of Monmouth and Fritz Waldvogel of St. Thomas. He caught 140 passes for 1,915 yards and scored 26 touchdowns, while recording 29 tackles, picking off a pass and breaking up four more for the Spartans. Dubuque won the Iowa Intercollegiate Athletic Conference for the first time in 30 years.
