In its first game without Eric Watt, Trine got two scores from its defense and went on to defeat Manchester 24-13. The Thunder defense lost seven starters itself from 2010, but got a 47-yard interception return for a touchdown from Jordan Hamilton and Aaron Shoemaker returned a fumble 27 yards for a score to help pace Trine. Baldwin-Wallace took advantage of Wooster turnovers and minimized its own turnover damage in defeating the Scots 23-0. Wooster fumbled on the 1-yard line and saw the Yellow Jackets follow it up with a 73-yard touchdown pass. John Harasyn returned a fumble 68 yards for a score to make it 14-0. Full story.
Dubuque got just 64 of its 373 total yards after halftime, but it was enough for the Spartans' 18-0 to hold up in an 18-13 win against Augustana. McMurry, which opens the season with back-to-back Division I FCS opponents, got crushed by the first, 82-6 against Stephen F. Austin.
On Friday night, Adrian's long trip to Maine was a fruitful one, as the Bulldogs rolled over Husson 77-7. Adrian put up 667 yards of total offense, as Brandon Miller threw four touchdown passes, Aaron Tenney threw two more and Ce'Juwon McFerrin ran for three scores in the win. Westfield State blocked a Nichols extra point to preserve a 21-20 victory. Nichols had put itself in position to tie when Peter Curto ran back a fumble 94 yards for a touchdown.
