Richard Dykas One Maine Maritime assistant coach died and another was injured in what appeared to be a single-vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

Secondary coach Richard Dykas was killed in the accident, which occurred when the pickup truck he was driving left the road on Route 166 in Maine, flew over an embankment and went into the driveway of a house. His passenger, Steven Nackley, the Mariners' halfbacks and receivers coach, received minor injuries, police told the Bangor Daily News.

The newspaper cited a statement issued by the school saying the team was informed Sunday afternoon in a team meeting. Academy president William Brennan said, "Our hearts go out to Richie's family and friends, as well as to his players and our close-knit coaching staff. He was an important member of our community, and the sudden loss of a coach, friend and colleague has been a tremendous blow to the entire Academy family."
