Steve Englehart has resigned as football coach at Rose-Hulman to accept the offensive coordinator position at Division I FCS Indiana State. Jayson Martin, the team's offensive coordinator, has been promoted to interim head coach.

Martin enters his third year on the coaching staff at Rose-Hulman and served as the team's offensive coordinator in 2009.

Englehart led the Fightin' Engineers to a 26-14 record and a .650 winning percentage in four seasons, two seasons at 7-3 and two at 6-4. Rose-Hulman recorded four consecutive six-win seasons for the first time in school history including the most recent 2009 campaign.

The four-year span is the best stretch of football at Rose-Hulman since the 1987-90 teams were 29-10-1. Englehart led the Engineers to their best conference finish since 1988 with an outright second-place effort in 2008. The past three squads combined for the 30 all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference awards.

"We appreciate Steve Englehart's efforts as head football coach at Rose-Hulman and wish him the best with all future endeavors. The program has made significant progress over the last four years, and we have expectations for another successful season this fall," said athletic director Jeff Jenkins.

Rose-Hulman's offensive unit established 15 individual and team school records in Martin's first season as offensive coordinator last fall. Six members of the offensive unit earned all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference accolades last season, including four-year starting quarterback Derek Eitel as league Offensive Player of the Year.

Martin will lead the Fightin' Engineers through the season on an interim basis, and a national search for the permanent head coaching position will begin at the conclusion of the campaign.

As a college player, Martin earned four varsity letters at Kentucky State. He competed on the Pioneer Bowl championship squad in 1997.

Prior Rose-Hulman, Martin coached for four seasons as offensive coordinator at Holy Trinity Academy High School in Florida and spent one season at Henry Clay High School in Lexington, Ky. He spent one season as a volunteer assistant on the Kentucky State coaching staff in 2001.
