Olivet hires coach of high school state champs

More news about: Olivet
President Donald L. Tuski has announced the appointment of Rich Hulkow as head football coach at Olivet. Hulkow recently led Marshall High School to its second Michigan High School Athletic Association Division 4 state championship and was named the 2009 Detroit Lions High School Coach of the Year.

Hulkow replaces Dominic Livedoti, who had a 39-54-3 record in 10 years and two stints at head coach, including 1-19 over the past two seasons and 18 consecutive losses. Hulkow will assume head coaching duties for the Comets in January.

"Olivet College is excited to have such an accomplished coach heading up our football program," said Tuski. "Hulkow brings experience and tremendous success, and we are looking forward to our first game next fall."

Hulkow, who has coached at Marshall High since 1984, posted a 210-84 record with 11 league titles, five state semifinal appearances, three championship finals appearances and two MHSAA championships. He was inducted into the Michigan High School Football Coaches of Association Hall of Fame in 2003.

“Our committee conducted a thorough review of dozens of applications from across the nation, but in the end our premier candidate was right down the road in Marshall," said Heather Bateman, athletic director and search committee chair. "Rich brings to Olivet years of demonstrated head coaching success and a strong connection with the state of Michigan football community."
