Middlebury's great round trip
The bus barreling up I-95, through the small towns along Route 103 and up Route 7 back to Middlebury, Vt., was spilling over with euphoria. Middlebury had done something that nobody had done since 2001. But the bus had been just as excited on the way down as well.

WNE, MIT make for an unlikely New England showdown
MIT and Western New England have two of the best backs in the region. This week they meet head-on but they are only a subplot, The bigger picture is that WNE and MIT are both undefeated making it a huge game in the NEFC.

Fitchburg, Castleton having surprising success
If you had told people in the heat of August that Fitchburg State and Castleton State would be a combined 9-2 at this point, you would have gotten more strange looks than Endicott's Drew Frenette has touchdown passes this season. And he has 18 of those.

Pair of BC transfers hit the NESCAC
Austin Lommen went from Boston College to Williams and Win Homer transferred from there to Middlebury. Going from a power conference to the eight-game NESCAC should be an interesting transition.

This past week, two Division III maritime schools met in New York City on 9/11, and Coast Guard and the Merchant Marine Academy met in their annual rivalry.

Western New England's Golden Bears played at Springfield for bragging rights to that Massachusetts city for only the second year and Keith Emery will defy anyone to say it is not an outstanding rivalry.
