ROME, Ga. — The Berry College football team scored the second-most points in program history on Saturday in a 54-10 rout of Rhodes College.
Berry improved to 7-1 and extended its home winning streak to 21-straight games. Rhodes fell to 1-6.
The Vikings had 457 yards of total offense and three takeaways, including a pair of interceptions returned for touchdowns. The team held Rhodes to a 36% conversion percentage on third down and just 73 yards rushing.
Berry led 23-0 after the first quarter. Trey Gregory connected on a 33-yard field goal before touchdown receptions from Mason Kinsey and Chandler Polk. Jack Carroll then returned an interception 14-yards for a score. Kinsey scored his second touchdown on a 20-yard pass from Gavin Gray in the second to put Berry up 30-0. Rhodes got on the board shortly after on a Fred Jackson field goal, but Kinsey scored his third touchdown of the first half before the break to put the Vikings up 37-3.
Darius Barnum scored on a 35-yard run up the middle in the third before Mark Sommerville took another interception 35-yards for a score. A Vikings mistake resulted in the only Rhodes touchdown of the day as Beck Fieth recovered a Heath Burchfield fumble and returned it 92-yards for a score. Matthew Syverson put the cherry on top with a 32-yard field goal in the fourth quarter.
Berry will enjoy a long-awaited bye week before its next contest at Centre College on Nov. 9
