After leading the Majors on the gridiron for 10 seasons, Aaron Pelch has been formally named as director of athletics. He has served as interim director of athletics since December 2018.

With his new role, Pelch will step down from his coaching duties. A national search for a new football coach will begin immediately.

The Majors were 5-5 this past season. Millsaps was 49-50 in 10 seasons under Pelch.

"In his new role, Aaron will provide leadership, strategic planning, and policy development for the athletics program, work with our Institutional Advancement team to raise funds for the athletic department, and recruit and supervise the coaching staff," said Robert W. Pearigen, president of Millsaps. "He has proven himself to be a leader who understands, supports, and advances the mission, vision, and values of the college."

Pelch is looking forward to the challenges and opportunities that come with his new title.

"It has been a great honor to serve as the head football coach at Millsaps over the last 10 years, and I am proud of where the program is today," said Pelch. "My family and I have been able to grow together with the program and have formed lifelong relationships with players, students, families, and alumni. I look forward to continuing my time at Millsaps. I see this new role as a great opportunity to advance the entire athletic department, and create a winning culture for Millsaps athletics."

Pelch joined Millsaps as head football coach prior to the 2010 season. Under his guidance, the Majors swept both the offensive and defensive player of the year awards during the first two seasons of the Southern Athletic Association. Pelch was named SAA Coach of the Year in both 2012 and 2013 as he guided the Majors to a pair of conference championships.

All told, in his 10 seasons at the helm Pelch totaled 49 wins, and coached nine individual conference player of the year winners. Additionally, 125 players earned all-conference recognition, and 218 were named academic all-conference honorees.
