But why is it that we can only keep two highly ranked teams apart for a round? Why do No. 5 and No. 8 play in order to potentially play No. 1 in the next round? I don’t understand why the Committee Chair (from UMHB) has to dance around questions. When asked about the difficulty of the UMHB bracket vs. the Mt. Union bracket, she completely ignored reality and rather, spoke like a politician. “I think Mt Union may disagree with that”, “Depends who you speak with”, “we’d hear the same from each region”. No, no and no. Can we just set correctness aside and communicate like grown ups? It’s not an insult to Mt to point to the fact that there are zero top 10 competitors in their bracket, while there are three in UMHB’s. It shouldn’t upset any team, in any bracket, to hear the truth spoken. At the end of the day, every team from every bracket has the opportunity to prove they are the best, so why can’t the committee representative just speak the plain truth about the brackets as they exist now? Fans want to understand the thought process. In truth, what I want to be assured of more than anything, is that the committee spends at least as much time thinking about the best possible bracketing as the D3 Football guys and many of the excellent posters D3 Football posters do. If the committee has really thought it through, then they should be prepared to answer any question truthfully.
Keith, although I know that you tend to favor defensive players for game balls, but maybe Justin Phan deserved that game ball more than Zach Lyon. Phan scooped the blocked punt up and scored. Then in OT he had a thirteen yard reception on fourth and twelve and caught the winning touchdown.
