After 24 seasons leading Dickinson football, Darwin Breaux is stepping down as the team's head coach. Breaux ends his tenure with one of the best career winning percentages in Dickinson football history, with a 131-113-1 overall record and a record of 97-81-1 in the Centennial Conference. Under his leadership, the Red Devils earned postseason play five times and won the 1998 ECAC South Bowl.

The Red Devils were 1-9 this season.

"Darwin's love of and dedication to Dickinson and its football program have been second to none," says Joe Giunta, director of athletics. "And his impact on the student body and student-athletes in particular will be felt long after he leaves the sidelines."

Breaux will remain with Dickinson as the head men's golf coach, a position he's held since 2000, and as a physical education instructor. He also will facilitate special athletics projects as needed.

Breaux joined the Dickinson football staff in 1989 as offensive coordinator and became head coach in 1993. His 1994 team compiled a school record 10-0 season, and Breaux was named AFCA South Region Coach of the Year. He also led the team to the 2006 NCAA playoffs and the 2007 ECAC Southeast championship, while coaching five players to six D3football.com All-America selections.

"Darwin came to be the face of Dickinson football over the past quarter century, and his character and love of the game have influenced countless players on his rosters," Giunta says. "His presence will truly be missed by the football community."

A nationwide search for Dickinson's next head football coach will begin immediately.
