APPLETON, Wis. -- Wisconsin native Matt Sosinsky has joined the Lawrence University football staff, Vikings head coach Tony Aker announced today.

Sosinsky, who grew up in Princeton, Wis., will coach the linebackers, serve as special teams coordinator and work as the recruiting coordinator.

"Matt is a great addition to our staff," Aker said. "He has a great knowledge of special teams, will be an asset to (Defensive Coordinator) Bo Flowers and our defense and will do a phenomenal job leading our recruiting efforts."

Sosinsky comes to Lawrence from Carleton College where he worked as the recruiting coordinator and wide receivers coach since April 2019. Sosinsky helped Carleton bring in its largest recruiting class in school history in 2019.

"I am extremely grateful to Coach Aker for hiring me for his staff," Sosinsky said. "We have known each other for a long time now, and he is a great coach with a great vision for Lawrence football. I look forward to being at a university near where I grew up and recruiting the great state of Wisconsin."

Sosinsky was a standout prep wide receiver and holds the Wisconsin record with 51 career touchdown catches. Sosinsky, who caught 206 passes as a high school receiver, ranks second in state history with 3,544 receiving yards. Sosinsky, who was a 13-time all-conference selection at Princeton in football, basketball, track and baseball, won the Al Toon Award as the state's top wide receiver in 2012.

A football and track and field standout at the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point, Sosinsky earned a bachelor's degree in sociology. A two-time All-Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference selection at wide receiver, Sosinsky also collected All-West Region honors as a senior. Sosinsky also earned All-America honors in indoor track as part of relay team for the Pointers.

"Matt is a Wisconsin guy and will be integral in our recruiting efforts in our home state, and he also has experience recruiting nationally at a high academic institution," Aker said.

Sosinsky began his coaching career as a student assistant at UW-Stevens Point for the 2015 and 2016 seasons and worked with the defensive backs. Sosinsky then served as a graduate assistant at Carroll University where he coached the wide receivers. While at Carroll, Sosinsky earned a master's degree in adult and continuing education.

"Matt brings passion, energy, and a 'Flinch Free' mentality to LU," said Aker, citing one of his tenets for the program. "We're excited to have him as part of our family."

Lawrence opens its 2020 season at Finlandia University on Sept. 5.
