SCHENECTADY, N.Y. -- For the first time since 2005 the Union College football team has completed the regular season with a perfect 10-0 season after shutting out Rensselaer, 33-0, and claiming the Dutchman Shoes Trophy for the second-straight year on Saturday afternoon at Frank Bailey Field at Bertagna-Class of 1985 Stadium.
Head coach Jeff Behrman inherited a team that went 0-10 in 2015, and in just four short years, Behrman has flipped the team's record and has the Dutchmen en route to the NCAA Tournament.
The win over the Engineers marks the 10th time the Dutchmen have gone undefeated during the regular season (2005, 1993, 1991, 1989, 1986, 1985, 1949, 1939, 1914); and just the foruth time that the Dutchmen have gone 10-0 in the regular season (2005, 1991, 1989).
The shutout over the Engineers also marks the first time since 1996 that the Dutchmen have blanked RPI. It is also Union's 13th consecutive victory, the third longest in program history (18 wins, 1990-91; 15 wins 1988-89)
Summary
- Sophomore running back Ike Irabor rushed for three touchdowns in the first half. Irabor finished the game with 113 yards on the ground.
- Andre Ross Jr. caught a 10-yard pass near the end of the second quarter to give Union a 27-0 lead at halftime.
