Birmingham-Southern Upsets No. 7 Berry on Homecoming

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – The Birmingham-Southern football defense held No. 7 Berry out of the endzone until the final play of the game while the offense put up an insurmountable lead in the Panthers 28-15 upset win Saturday night.  BSC (4-2) is tied for second in the Southern Athletic Association with a 3-1 conference record.

BSC's defense played lights out against the Vikings, shutting them down completely in the first quarter and only allowing only nine points until the final second of the game.  Gibbs Sherrell (Fairhope, Ala./Fairhope HS) led with a team-high eight tackles and an interception he returned 20 yards.  

Robert Shufford (McKenzie, Ala./McKenzie HS) rushed for a game and career-high 238 yards and a touchdown, averaging 9.2 yards per carry.  This was his fifth consecutive 100+ yard rushing game.  He also caught two passes for 23 yards and a touchdown.  Trevor Oakes (Somerville, Ala./Hartselle HS) completed 12-of-16 passes for a game-high 175 yards and a touchdown.  

Hayden Terral (Fairhope, Ala./Fairhope HS) drilled three field goals to help secure the win.  He connected from 22, 26, and 35 yards out.  Terral also finished with 229 kickoff yards.

The Panthers hit the road next.  They take on Centre College Saturday, October 26.  Kickoff is set for noon.
