BEREA, Ohio- Baldwin Wallace University football Defensive Line Coach Jim Meyer was inducted into the Summit County Sports Hall of Fame on Tuesday, October 1.
The Summit County Sports Hall of Fame is Ohio's Oldest All Sports Hall of Fame and held its first banquet on September 19, 1957.
"Anytime you can be recognized by the people you grew up with, worked for and respect is truly a great honor" said Meyer.
Coach Meyer, in the midst of his 11th season coaching at BW, is in his first year as the defensive line coach. Prior to BW, he has held many different roles at different schools including Wayne State University, Ashland University, University of Akron, Malone College, Bethany (W. Va.) College and Kenyon College. While serving as the head coach at Kenyon, he was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Coach of the Year in 1989. Meyer also mentored NFL All-Pro Jason Taylor while coaching defensive ends at Akron in 1996.
"Coach Meyer has made a huge impact on his fellow coaches and the young men he has coached over the last 42 years," said football Head Coach Jim Hilvert. "He is a great person that has made a difference in people's lives."
Meyer also served as the football Head Coach and Athletic Director at his alma mater, Akron St. Vincent-St. Mary High School, from 1997-2001.
As a player, he helped lead the Akron football team as co-captain to finish as Division II national runner-up in 1976.
