Empire 8 Shutout Streak Continues as Brockport Downs Hartwick

BROCKPORT, NY – The College at Brockport football team jumped out to a 31-0 lead before halftime and held visiting Hartwick to -67 rushing yards on the day to earn its second straight Empire 8 Conference shut out victory, 38-0, on Saturday at Bob Boozer Field. Brockport has allowed just one touchdown over the course of the last 13 quarters of play and the Golden Eagles have now won five consecutive contests.

Brockport improved to 5-1 overall on the year and 2-0 in Empire 8 play.  Hartwick saw its record fall to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the E8.  The Golden Eagles rolled up 243 yards rushing and scored all five of its touchdowns on the ground. Brockport finished with 556 total yards of offense and held the visitors to just 99. Hartwick converted 1-of-13 third down opportunities on the day.

Senior wide receiver Joseph Ortiz caught four balls on the day and now holds sole possession of the College's all-time receptions record with 224.  Jala Coad led the ground game with three first half touchdowns, while Justin Morrison added 77 yards rushing and one TD on 10 carries. 

Senior quarterback Jason Hellwig completed 12 passes for 227 yards and also rushed for 59 on the ground. Imhotep Cromer caught six balls for 118 yards, while Derrick Chance made four grabs for 54 yards. 

Brockport's defense shined once again and pressured the Hartwick QB all afternoon.  The Golden Eagles totaled six sacks.  Alex West led the way once again with 2.0 sacks on the day and he now has 4.5 in his last two starts.  West finished with five tackles, including 4.0 for a loss of 15 yards.  Andrew Covais and Jason Karteron each posted six tackles. 

Raylens Boutin and Ben Marshall each intercepted one pass on the day.  Boutin now has a team-high three interceptions and 13 total passes defended this season.

The Golden Eagles jumped out to a quick 17-0 lead in the first quarter behind two short yardage rushing scores from Coad and a 22 yard field goal from the leg of senior kicker Dustin Moyle.  Coad scored from five yards out to cap an eight play 78 yard opening drive at 12:20.  Moyle then knocked down his lone field goal of the day at 7:08 of the first, before Coad punched in his second TD of the day from three yards out just before the end of the quarter.

Coad got things going once again in the second quarter when he drove in a one yard TD run with 10:16 before the half to hand the Golden Eagles a 24-0 lead. Justin Morrison added a two yard TD run with 6:30 to go in the first half to give the home team a 31-0 lead as the halftime horn sounded.

Both teams were held scoreless in the third quarter, but freshman Vincent Daviero added a 26 yard TD run in the fourth quarter to close out the scoring on the day. Daviero finished the day with 64 yards rushing on nine carries. The freshman now has 145 yards rushing and two TDs on 27 carries this season.
 
Dan Livoti led the Hartwick offense with 127 yards passing on 12 completions.  Livoti was also sacked five times.  Matt Scotman led the Hawk defense with eight tackles and one forced fumble. 

The Golden Eagles have now won 16 consecutive regular season home games and they have not lost in front of the home crowd at Boozer field during a regular season game since Sept. 24, 2016.  Including post season play, Brockport has won 19 of its last 20 home games. The Golden Eagles are 3-0 at home this season, outscoring their opponents by a score of 107-6.
 
Brockport has rattled off five straight victories following its week one loss on the road at Hobart. Over the course of the five victories, the Golden Eagles have posted three shut outs and allowed just 28 total points.  Brockport has outscored its opponents 179-28 over the course of the last five games.

Brockport has won 18 straight Empire 8 Conference contests dating back to Oct. 29, 2016. Over the course of the last four seasons the Golden Eagles are 22-2 in conference games.
 
Brockport has its midseason bye week next weekend to rest up and prepare for the second half of its schedule. Following the bye week, the Golden Eagles will host Utica College at Bob Boozer Field on Oct. 26th at 12 p.m.
