BEREA, Ohio- The Baldwin Wallace University football team has selected five student-athletes to serve as team captains for the 2019 season.

Senior linebacker Noah Jackson (Lorain/Amherst), senior All-Ohio Athletic Conference defensive back Jordyn Johnson (Akron/North), senior Academic All-OAC quarterback A.J. Miller (Coral Springs, Fla./Coral Springs Charter), junior Academic All-OAC linebacker Josh Liberati (Lisbon/David Anderson) and junior offensive lineman Patrick Simon (Olmsted Falls).

To become a captain, student-athletes had to send in an application to third-year head coach Jim Hilvert and were then voted on by their teammates.

"The team selected five young men that exemplify what it means to be a BW Football Player" said Hilvert. "Each one of these young men work hard, have a great attitude and are tough individuals. I am very excited to have Noah, Jordyn, A.J., Josh and Patrick lead this team in 2019."

Jackson, a two-year letterman, has appeared in 17 career games. In 2018, he recorded a career-high 21 tackles and a career-best two quarterback sacks.

Johnson will look to build off of his 2018 season in which he received an All-OAC honorable mention. He led the OAC with a career-high 11 pass breakups and was tied for fourth in the OAC with a team-high three interceptions. In three years, Johnson has recorded 46 tackles in 18 games.

Miller is a two-time Academic All-OAC selection. He appeared in his first collegiate game last season vs. Mount Union.

As the only returning captain, Liberati will look to continue playing at the level he did in 2018. Appearing in all ten games last year, he led the team with a career-high 59 tackles, including a career-best of 5.5 for loss. He also recorded a career-high three quarterback sacks. In two years, Liberati has tallied 63 tackles in 19 games.

Simon, who was part of an offensive unit that totaled 456.6 yards and 38.8 points per game last season, will be looked upon to anchor the offensive line. While recording starts in all 10 games in 2018, he played every position on the line at some point throughout the season. In the last two seasons, Simon has started and played in all 20 games on the offensive line.

The Yellow Jackets will open up their season on a three-game road trip, starting at Alma (Mich.) College on Saturday, September 7 at 1 p.m. BW will play its first home game of the season on Saturday, September 28 when it hosts Heidelberg University in an OAC game and the 42nd Lee Tressel Shrine Classic at 1:30 p.m.
