BALTIMORE, MD – The Johns Hopkins football team closed the 2018 season ranked fifth in the final American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) top 25 and matched that with a number five ranking in the final D3football.com Poll as both organizations released their final national rankings.
 
The number five rankings are the highest in program history in either poll.  The Blue Jays had been ranked a program-best sixth in the AFCA Poll on four differeny occasions, (once in 2014, twice in 2015 and once in 2016),  while Johns Hopkins was twice ranked seventh in the D3football.com Poll (both in 2014).
 
Johns Hopkins totaled 1,065 points in the AFCA Poll of 50 voters to easily secure the number five spot in that poll.  Mary Hardin-Baylor, which won its second national championship, grabbed all 50 first-place votes and totaled 1,250 points to grab the top spot.  Mount Union, Wisconsin-Whitewater, St. John's (MN) and Johns Hopkins rounded out the top five.
 
In the D3football.com Poll, the Blue Jays earned 534 points to earn their number five ranking.  Mary Hardin-Baylor earned all 25 first-place votes to grab the top spot, while Mount Union, St. John's (MN), Wisconsin-Whitewater and Johns Hopkins were ranked second through fifth.
 
Dating back to the start of the 2012 season, Johns Hopkins has now been ranked in the top 25 of the AFCA Poll 78 times in 80 weeks.  During the same period, the Blue Jays have also been ranked in the top 25 by D3football.com 83 times in 91 weeks.
 
Johns Hopkins set a school record with 12 wins (12-2), claimed its 10th consecutive Centennial Conference title and made its eighth straight trip to the NCAA Playoffs in 2018.  In the NCAAs, the Blue Jays topped MIT (49-0), sixth-ranked Frostburg St. (58-27) and 23rd-ranked RPI (37-14) to advance to the NCAA Semifinals for the first time in program history.
