The Nichols College football team rushed for 189 yards in a 49-14 loss to Western New England University Saturday afternoon in Commonwealth Coast Conference (CCC) action at a rainy Vendetti Field.
 
Senior Jacob Duffrene rushed for 123 yards and one score – a 35-yard scamper in the first quarter – while junior Jake Wood caught seven passes for 40 yards and one touchdown. Junior Michael Pina completed 11-of-26 pass attempts for 78 yards and one score, and was sacked three times.
 
The Golden Bears (7-1, 4-0 CCC) compiled 548 yards on the ground, led by junior signal caller Alex Coleman with 284 yards and three touchdowns (69,52,8). Classmate Peter Hoff collected 123 on the ground and scored from nine-yards out while senior Matt Anastasi, junior Jake Salera, and freshman Joshua Salem each picked up eight tackles on defense.
 
Senior McCoy Scott led all student-athletes with 16 tackles (seven solo) for Nichols – including three tackles for loss.
 
Three things you need to know...
-The Bison committed three turnovers in plus territory – including one inside the red zone.
-Western New England outscored the Bison 35-0 in the second half and outgained them 380-97 over the final 30 minutes.
-Senior Charles Wade and junior Christopher Lawrence each registered a sack for Nichols.
