MARIETTA, Ohio — Jimmy Marshall hit a career-long 42-yard field goal as time expired as Baldwin Wallace University defeated Marietta College, 30-28, Saturday (Oct. 27) afternoon in Ohio Athletic Conference football action.

The loss drops the Pioneers to 6-2 overall and 5-2 OAC. Baldwin Wallace improves to 7-1 on the season and 6-1 in league play.

"I'm proud of our effort today, but disappointed in the outcome," Marietta head coach Andy Waddle said. "We weren't able to get the stop on defense and offensively we didn't manage the play clock at the end of the game."

Marietta senior quarterback Darrien Fields completed 20-of-36 passes for 274 yards and one touchdown. Junior running back Tanner Clark rushed for 117 yards and one touchdown on 28 carries. Clark also had four catches for 81 yards and a 50-yard touchdown.

With his first completion of the game, Field set the Marietta College all-time record for pass completions. The old record was 495 by Jason Vrable (2003-06). Fields now has 515 career completions.

Clark opened the scoring when he took the opening kickoff and returned it 99-yards for a touchdown just 16 seconds into the game.

The Yellow Jackets scored 20 straight points in the second half to take a 27-21 lead with 14:05 left in the game.

BW quarterback Jake Hudson ran for one five-yard touchdown and threw for three others. Hudson completed 21-of-33 passes for 293 yards and three TDs. He was intercepted twice. Hudson rushed for 74 yards on 17 carries.

Rob Wolfington led the Yellow Jackets with 10 catches for 129 yards and two touchdowns. Chad Steinwachs had five catches for 64 yards and one touchdown.

Fields put the Pioneers back in front when he dove in from the one-yard line with 12:38 remaining. The teams traded possessions and Marietta took over possession at its own 38-yard line with 6:44 left in the game.

Marietta drove to the BW 10-yard line and had first goal with less than two minutes remaining. After Clark was stopped for no gain on first down the Yellow Jackets used their final timeout with 1:29 left on the clock. An incomplete pass and a two-yard Clark rush left Marietta with fourth down on the 8-yard line.

The Pioneers elected to attempt the 25-yard field goal. Jimmy Embrescia pushed the kick wide left giving the ball back to Baldwin Wallace with 1:18 on the clock.

Baldwin Wallace worked its way down the field with Hudson completing five passes, the last of which went for 16-yards to Wolfington down to the Pioneer 25-yard line with three seconds left in the game setting Marshall up for the game-winning kick.

Marietta travels to Westerville next Saturday (Nov. 3) for a 1:30 p.m. at Otterbein University.
