ST. PAUL, Minn. – In its second-straight game against a top-10 opponent, the St. Olaf College football team fell 60-0 to the seventh-ranked University of St. Thomas on Saturday afternoon at O'Shaughnessy Stadium.
St. Thomas (7-1, 5-1 MIAC) scored on its first seven possessions of the game to get out to a 40-0 halftime lead and added three second-half touchdowns to hand St. Olaf (5-3, 3-3 MIAC) its third defeat in a row after a 5-0 start. The Tommies outgained the Oles by a 485-55 margin in the game.
Five different Tommies ran for touchdowns in the game, as the hosts totaled 303 yards and six scores on the ground. Josh Parks carried the ball nine times for 74 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while Jacques Perra completed 14-of-20 passes for 180 yards and two scores.
The St. Thomas defense picked off three passes and held the Oles to 0-for-11 on third-down conversions in the shutout. First-year Gabe Aladahad four catches for 55 yards for St. Olaf in the loss.
Tom Loeffler ran back the opening kickoff to the St. Olaf 43-yard line for St. Thomas and the Tommie offense covered the 43 yards in six plays to go up 7-0 early. Parks got the opening touchdown of the game for St. Thomas on a 12-yard run.
After an interception set up the Tommies at the St. Olaf 27-yard line, St. Thomas needed just two plays to cash in, scoring on a 19-yard run by Stephen Wagner. The St. Thomas defense got a three-and-out on the next possession before Perra hit Vinny Pallini for a 77-yard touchdown on the first play of the ensuing drive to make it 20-0 midway through the first quarter.
The Tommies alternated touchdowns and field goals on their next four drives of the first half, scoring on an eight-yard pass from Perra to Jackson Finn and a 31-yard run by Parks in addition to two field goals from Tyler Knutson.
Tucker Trettel, Nick Rice and Xavier Roberts had rushing touchdowns in the second half for St. Thomas.
Junior Shiloh Goodwin led the Oles' defense by tying his season high with 12 tackles, including eight solo stops and one tackle for a loss. Classmate Max Karpinske added a season-high 10 tackles (six solo), 1.5 tackles for a loss and one pass break, while senior Ridley Weeks had a fourth-quarter interception, his second of the season.
St. Olaf hosts Concordia (Minn.) on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 1 p.m. at Klein Field at Manitou.
