Defense carries Toms again in shutout win

No. 7-ranked St. Thomas Football rode its defense again as it shut down visiting St. Olaf Saturday in a 60-0 MIAC victory at O'Shaughnessy Stadium. It was the Tommies' eighth shutout in 21 games in 2017 and 2018.

St. Thomas (7-1 overall, 5-1 MIAC) improved to 6-0 at home this season. It outgained the Oles 485-55 yards, and allowed minus-two yards net rushing on 30 carries. The Toms allowed only four first downs, forced 11 punts and limited St. Olaf to 0-for-13 on third downs.

Josh Parks played just two quarters and gained 74 yards on nine rushes, including TD runs of 31 and 12 yards. Jacques Perra completed 14 of 20 passes for 180 yards, including a 77-yard TD to Vinny Pallini. Tom Loeffler had 171 all-purpose yards on 15 touches, including a 52-yard kickoff return, a 32-yard punt return and 65 rushing yards.

Sam Gerrety had his sixth interception of the season, one of three picks on the day for Tommie defensive backs. St. Thomas is plus-15 in turnovers this season led by 18 interceptions.
