Bison roll past Pioneers, 43-7

More news about: Nichols

Recap
Junior Michael Pina threw for three scores and senior Princewell Iwejuo recorded two interceptions in Nichols College's 43-7 win over Alfred State Saturday afternoon in non-conference football action at Vendetti Field.

Junior Jake Wood also caught two touchdowns (76, 13) for the Bison, who evened the record at 2-2. The defense held the Pioneers (0-4) to just 182 yards of total offense and also forced three fumbles with juniors Michael Spraulding and Patrick Porter each recovering one.

Nichols also scored three rushing touchdowns as senior Jacob Duffrene broke off an 82-yard touchdown run, sophomore Xavier Hackett scored from 42 yards out, and sophomore Joshua Pierre-Charles found the end zone from nine-yards out. Senior Eric Mooney caught a 14-yard touchdown pass – his third of the season.

Defensively, junior Christopher Lawrence led the squad with 12 tackles and one sack while senior McCoy Scott notched 10 tackles, two sacks, and also forced a pair of fumbles.

Sophomore Kiegan Brown was the top rusher for Alfred State with 81 yards on 18 carries.

Three things you need to know...
-The Bison compiled 501 yards of total offense, which is the eighth-highest mark in program history, and their highest total since racking up 537 yards against Anna Maria on September 12, 2015.
-The 36-point margin of victory is the largest for the Bison since a 41-0 shutout of Maine Maritime on October 2, 2004 in Dudley.
-Duffrene's 82-yard touchdown run was the third-longest in program history and the second-longest touchdown run. Jim Duchesneau's 92-yarder against Bridgewater State on October 24, 1970 hold that distinction.

Quote
"This was a great team win. I thought we played well in all three phases of the game. On offense, we were very balanced. We scored three passing touchdowns and three rushing touchdowns, and saw five different student-athletes score. We also hit a couple of big plays. Defensively, we recorded four takeaway. McCoy Scott played his best game as a Bison. Although we weren't perfect on PAT's, Daniel Espinosa converted our first field goal of the season." -Nichols head coach Dale Olmsted
