Gettysburg Drops Homecoming Game to McDaniel

GETTYSBURG, Pa.  – McDaniel College took advantage of four turnovers by Gettysburg College to come away with a 25-0 decision on the Bullets' Homecoming at Shirk Field at Musselman Stadium on Saturday.
 
McDaniel (2-2, 1-2 CC) out-gained Gettysburg (0-4, 0-3 CC) 350-123 in total offense and held the football for more than 40 minutes in the game. The Green Terror forced three fumbles and an interception in the game.
 
Six Bullets posted double-digit tackles with sophomore Jack Humphries (Lutherville, Md./Calvert Hall) and seniorJake Skinner (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) each finishing with 14. Senior Logan Aikey (Lewisburg, Pa./Lewisburg) posted a dozen stops, 1.5 tackles for a loss, and forced a fumble, while junior Cole Keyes (Mount Laurel, N.J./Lenape) managed 10 tackles. Freshman Brent Hayes (Biglerville, Pa./Biglerville) and junior Ryan Greene (Easton, Pa./Easton) each tallied 10 stops and combined for two sacks and 3.5 tackles for a loss.
 
Making his first start at quarterback, sophomore Ryan Finlay (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) finished 14-of-33 for 90 yards. Senior Johnny Davis (Mahwah, N.J./Mahwah) led the receiving corps with 49 yards on three catches.
 
For McDaniel, Tyler Palermiti finished 15-of-26 for 195 yards. Five of his passes went to Davon Ingram for 82 yards, including a 53-yard toss in the second quarter. John Chamberlin led the Green Terror rushing attack with 81 yards and a touchdown on 25 carries, while Isaac Murray posted 13 carries, 67 yards, and one touchdown.
 
McDaniel punter Joey Cornwell averaged 41.5 yards on eight punts with his first kick in the first quarter going for 71 yards. He pinned the Bullets inside the 20-yard line three times in the game. Jarius Ransom led the Green Terror defense with 11 tackles, one sack, and 2.5 tackles for a loss.
 
In the opening quarter, the visitors took advantage of a short punt to net the period's only points on a 24-yard field goal by Peyton Denlinger. McDaniel didn't wait long to find the end zone in the second quarter as Ingram's long reception set up Aaron Pray III for a short touchdown run.  
 
Sophomore Thomeir Richardson (Trenton, N.J./Trenton Central) picked off a pass by Palermiti for his team-leading third interception of the season later in the second quarter. Gettysburg managed its deepest drive of the opening half on the next possession, advancing to the McDaniel 34-yard line before being forced to punt. The teams would enter the half with the Green Terror leading 9-0.
 
The momentum shifted in favor of the visitors in the third quarter as Gettysburg committed a pair of turnovers. Murray extended the lead to 16-0 with a 20-yard rush.
 
Chamberlin scored the game's final touchdown with a four-yard plunge to cap a 69-yard drive with less than five minutes to go. After Cornwell pinned the Bullets just outside their own end zone, Ransom came up with the game's final points on a sack in the end zone.
 
Gettysburg visits Moravian College (2-2, 1-2 CC) next Saturday, Sept. 29, at 1 p.m.
