Tommies win 28th in row vs. MIAC opponent

No. 4-ranked St. Thomas picked off four passes and used two return touchdowns to help fuel a 97-0 win in Saturday's MIAC contest at St. Olaf.

The Tommies (9-1 overall, 8-0 MIAC) ran their win streak to eight and tied a record for consecutive wins over conference opponents with 28 since late in he 2014 season. St. John's won 28 in a row against conference teams in a span from 2000-04.

St. Thomas gained 667 yards as QB Jacques Perra threw for 295 yards and three touchdowns in just over two quarters, and Josh Parks had his second consecutive 100-yard rushing game.

The Tommie defense held the Oles to 71 total yards on 61 plays, including just nine net rushing yards on 26 carries.

The Tommie offense scored touchdowns on its first 11 drives and replaced its starters just after halftime. 

The Toms converted a fourth-down chance deep in its own territory and turned it into an 80-yard TD pass from Jacques Perra to Jackson Finn to open the scoring. Mark Dowdle returned a deflected punt 25 yards for a TD in the second quarter. Michael Franzese had a 38-yard interception return for a first-quarter TD. Perra had a 60-yard TD pass to Gabe Green as the Toms outgained the Oles 380-50 in the first half.

St. Thomas won the solo MIAC title for the sixth time in the last eight years. It has already secured an NCAA playoff spot and will learn its postseason bracket on Sunday when the Division III national playoff field is announced at 4:30 p.m.
