Anthony Leads William Paterson with 20 Tackles but Pioneers Fall, 20-0, to TCNJ

WAYNE, N.J. – Sophomore linebacker Corey Anthony collected a career-best 20 tackles and sophomore defensive lineman Brandon Yaw added 2.5 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles, but the William Paterson football team (0-8, 0-7 NJAC) couldn't overcome The College of New Jersey (2-6, 2-5 NJAC), 20-0, Oct. 28.

 

The Lions got on the scoreboard with an 11-play, 69-yard drive late in the first half. Senior running back Khani Glover capped it off with a one-yard surge up the middle and senior Zach Pharo kicked the extra point, making it a 7-0 game with 2:20 to play before halftime.

 

Pharo split the uprights for field goals of 25 (10-0, 0:07 in third) and 31 (13-0, 11:00 in fourth) yards before junior Connor Owen took a pitch three yards for a TD with 4:46 left in the contest to finish the scoring.

 

Senior quarterback James Waldron went 4-for-12 for 40 yards through the air as the starter, and paced WP with 25 yards rushing on five attempts. Sophomore signal caller Cornelius Kitchen completed eight of 17 passes for 62 yards. and senior wide receiver Tyler Vivian gained 37 yards on three receptions.

 

Nine of Anthony's 20 stops were solo, while Yaw had 11 tackles (3.5 TFL, 2.5 sacks), two forced fumbles and one fumble recovered. Freshman defensive back Isaiah Hunt and junior linebacker Charles Faulkner each contributed 10 stops for the Pioneers.

 

Senior quarterback Trevor Osler finished 23-for-30 for 215 yards for the Lions. Owen rushed 14 times for 75 yards and a score, and Glover carried 18 times for 71 yards and a touchdown. Senior wide receiver Thomas Koenig hauled in four passes for 73 yards.

 

Sophomore defensive back Xavier Santos led TCNJ with seven tackles, while senior defensive back Rob Agnoni had six stops and an interception.

 

William Paterson will celebrate Senior Day and Pioneer Veterans Appreciation Day Saturday, Nov. 4, when the Pioneers host Southern Virginia at 1:00 p.m.
