More news about: Mary Hardin-Baylor

Abilene, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor football team's offense exploded for 42 first half points and the defense smothered McMurry's offense as the Cru rolled to a 62-0 victory over the War Hawks Saturday in Abilene, UMHB moves to 8-0 overall and 7-0 in American Southwest Conference play with the win. The loss drops McMurry to 2-6 overall and 2-5 in the ASC on the year.

The Cru intercepted a War Hawk pass on the opening series and turned it into a 60-yard touchdown pass from Kyle Jones to T.J. Josey to make it 7-0. Markeith Miller then added touchdown runs of six and 16 yards to put UMHB up 21-0 at the end of the first quarter. Miller wrapped scoring runs of two and five yards around Carl Robinson III's 20-yard scoring scamper as the Cru built a 42-0 halftime advantage. Miller tacked on his fifth rushing touchdown of the day with an eight-yarder to open the second half scoring and Justis Kelly added a 42-yard interception return for a touchdown. John Mowery added a 29-yard field goal and Mark Frankhouser closed out the scoring with a 22-yard field goal.

The Cru rolled up a season-high 582 yards of total offense with 295 coming on the ground and 287 through the air. UMHB limited the war Hawks to nine rushing yards and 70 yards of total offense while forcing five turnovers. The Cru defense posted its second shutout of the season in the win.

Miller set a new school record with his five rushing touchdowns and finished with 69 yards on 10 carries. Robinson was 10-10 passing for 110 yards and he added 53 rushing yards. Jones was 7-8 passing for 122 yards and a touchdown. Josey caught nine passes for 156 yards and a score. Kelly topped the UMHB defense with four tackles to go with his interception return for a touchdown and Haston Adams had 2.0 tackles for loss in the win.

With the victory, UMHB extends its winning streak to 23 consecutive games. The Cru will return to action with a 1:00 PM kickoff at Louisiana College next Saturday in Pineville, Louisiana. A win over the Wildcats would clinch at least a share of UMHB's 15th ASC title.
