EWING, N.J. (September 1, 2017) - Junior Jagger Green threw for a school-record 593 yards and five touchdowns to lead FDU to a 38-24 win over TCNJ Friday.
Green broke the original record of 405 yards, set in 2013 by Michael Santos. His 40 completions were off the mark set by Tyler Maurer in 2015.
Things didn't start off well for FDU, as TCNJ received the opening kickoff and marched down the field in 4:11 and scored a touchdown going up 7-0. After the teams traded three and outs, Green tossed his first interception of the season giving the hosts great field position. The tough Devils defense limited TCNJ to a field goal, giving them a 10-0 edge.
Green led FDU to their first scoring play of the year, leading a 9-play, 75 yard drive, capped off with three straight completions to sophomore Khrystan Camillo. The final completion was a nine yard touchdown strike. The Lions opened the second quarter with a rushing touchdown, leading 17-7.
Neither side was able to break through until Nick Maciejewski connected on a 28 yard field goal, cutting the Lions lead to 17-10 heading into the halftime break. Green threw another interception on the opening drive of the third, but sophomore Steven Coury sacked the Lions quarterback to force a turnover on downs, giving the Devils the ball back with 12:34 remaining in the third.
Facing a third and long, Green hit senior wideout Malik Pressley for a 59-yard touchdown, knotting the game at 17 all. The Lions answered again with a touchdown of their own, but Green hit Pressley again on the ensuing drive for a 19 yard score.
After both sides were able to score on the next two drives, FDU began with the ball on their 12 yard line. Green hit junior Mike Panzarino on the sideline, the junior outran the defense for an 88-yard touchdown pass and catch, giving FDU the lead they would not surrender.
A big defensive stop by sophomore Isaiah Turner and Mihajlo Simakoski on fourth down halted a drive by the hosts, and Green capped off his career day with a 17 yard TD to Pressley, his third score of the year.
Green finished 40-for-58 with five scores and two interceptions, while Pressley hauled in 16 balls for 271 yards. Panzarino and Camilo also crossed the century mark in receiving yards while also catching nine passes each.
