NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass. --  Senior quarterback Cory Burnham (Essex, Mass.) threw for 277 yards and pair of touchdowns to lead UMass Dartmouth to a 33-0 Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference football victory over Massachusetts Maritime Saturday afternoon at Cressy Field.

Burnham gave the host Corsairs (5-3, 4-2 MASCAC) the only points they would need in the final minute of the opening quarter when he connected with sophomore Abbi Bamgbose (Worcester, Mass.) on a 23-yard scoring strike, and UMass Dartmouth extended that margin to 20-0 at the break with a pair of touchdowns in the final 1:23 of the half on an eight-yard run by sophomore Jacob Francis (Middletown, R.I.) and a two-yard toss from Burnham to sophomore Matt Clement (Bridgewater, Mass.).  The hosts iced their triumph with a pair of fourth quarter rushing scores, as junior Eddie Sheridan (Chelmsford, Mass.) plunged in from two yards out and sophomore Matt DeLeo (Little Compton, R.I.) added a six-yard scamper to account for the final margin.

Sheridan and junior Michael Slaughter Jr. (Springfield, Mass.) combined for 39 carries and 151 rushing yards on the day for UMass Dartmouth, which held a 406-66 advantage on the ground and held the ball for nearly 38 minutes.  Bamgbose hauled in seven receptions for 93 yards to go with his touchdown for the Corsairs, who amassed 705 yards of total offense in falling one play short (120) of the visiting Buccaneers' (4-3, 3-2 MASCAC) NCAA Division III national record set against Worcester State in 2013.

Junior quarterback Chris Haggerty (Cohasset, Mass.) threw for 107 yards in the setback for Massachusetts Maritime, which also received 47 rushing yards from senior Kenny Pierce (Beverly, Mass.) in collecting 173 yards of total offense on the afternoon.  Senior David Collins (Mansfield, Mass.) and junior Marvey Mathurin (Woburn, Mass.) paced UMass Dartmouth's defensive effort with nine tackles each, while senior Marshall McCarthy (Duxbury, Mass.) registered a game and career-high 20 total stops (11 solo) to lead the Buccaneers defensively.  Freshman Kenny Kern (Hopkinton, Mass.) added 14 total tackles (10 solo) as well for the visitors, which dropped their first contest to the Corsairs since 2005 after winning the previous three match-ups between the schools since the formation of the MASCAC in 2013.

Massachusetts Maritime hosts Framingham State in a Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference outing next Saturday afternoon at Clean Harbors Stadium that kicks off at Noon, while UMass Dartmouth heads to Danbury, Conn. next Saturday afternoon to square off with Western Connecticut in a MASCAC clash that kicks off at 5:00 p.m.
