Football Hands No. 22 Hendrix First Loss on the Year

CONWAY, Ark. - The Vikings football team held the No. 3 offense in the nation for total offense to just 14 points as Berry handed No. 22 Hendrix its first loss on the season. 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Warriors struck first in the form of a 30-yard touchdown catch by Ethan Hoppe in the first quarter. 
  • The Vikings took the lead in the second after a field goal by Mitchell Blanchard and a 22-yard rushing score from quarterback Slade Dale.
  • Hendrix entered the half leading 14-13 after running back Dayton Winn punched one in from nine yards out.
  • The Warriors would not score another point, as the Vikings held the prolific offense scoreless in the second half.
  • Matt Farinella blocked a fourth-quarter field goal which would result in a scoring drive for Berry.
  • Obie Brannon would tack on two field goals in addition to a rushing score by Jacob Collins in the second half to seal the victory.

  • Gray Stanton: 9 tackles, 1 tackle for loss
  • Jake Brantley: 6 tackles, 2 tackels for loss
  • Tyler Clifton: 9 tackles, 1 tackle for loss

NOTABLES:

  • The Vikings held Hendrix to their lowest point total since Nov. 16, 2013.
  • Running back Dayton Winn entered the game averaging the second-best rushing yards per game in the Southern Athletic Association (SAA) with 105.4. He was held to just 49 yards on the ground.
  • Mamadou Soumahoro broke the Berry College sack record for a single season with 10 on the year and continues to lead the SAA.
  • Berry is now in first place in the SAA standings at 4-1 in conference play
