NEWBERG, Ore. --- The Bruins ended their 2015 football season on a high note Saturday afternoon, as the Bruins beat the Bearcats of Willamette University, 21-14.
Recap:
It didn't take for the Bruins to get in an early rhythm, as they used their first possession to march down the field and end it with a 13-yard touchdown run by senior John Shaffer. After that first touchdown, both teams started to settle in and not give each other an inch. It was a battle for the remainder of the first half, as the Bruins went into the break up, 7-0.
The third quarter was a whirlwind of events, as both teams combined to turn the ball over six times. The Bruins managed to pick-off Bearcat' Ryan Knowlton three times. The first one came from Rudy Hughes, who gave the Bruins excellent field possession. George Fox went on to score two plays later after Grant Schroeder ran in a 22-yard touchdown. The Bruins continued to be relentless forcing another interception, as Justin Kruse batted a ball and it landed in Caleb Dalzell's hands. Again, the Bruins had great field possession, and Shaffer used his feet to give the Bruins a 21-0 advantage.
The Bearcats did manage to get on the board in the third quarter after a Bruin fumble. The Bruins went into the fourth quarter with a two-touchdown lead, but that quickly was cut, as the Bearcats scored again with 12 minutes left in the game.
The rest of the game kept the fans on their seat, as neither team wanted to give up any ground. The Bearcats had a chance to force an overtime, but the defensive line from the Bruins stood tough, forcing two incomplete passes and one sack for five yards.

Top Performers:
Schroeder finished his day with 15 completions on 25 attempts and 105 yards with one rushing touchdown. Shaffer, who played in his last game for the Bruins ran for 71 yards and two touchdowns. Jesse Bresser, who also played in his last game as a Bruin, led the defense with 16 total tackles. The Bruins honored Shaffer, Bresser, Lawrence Potts, Matt Miller, Lenana Meekisho, Mark Sanchez, Tony Long and Ryan Hess before the game.
What It Means:
It means the Bruins only lost once at home this year, and that was to the No. 2-ranked team in the nation. They doubled their win record last year in conference and recorded four wins overall.
