Five season records fell and one was tied in Saturday's senior day season finale win over University of Minnesota-Morris. The 37-20 win ends the Blue Jay season 6-3 in Upper Midwest Athletic Conference (UMAC) play and 6-4 on the season.
The five season records broken were the rushing yards (1,492) and rushing touchdowns (16) records by sophomore Latif Adams, the punt return record by junior Jack Williams (17), the sacks season record by Ayo Oyesanya (9) and the kick return average record by freshman Matt Quarles (26.5). The tied season record was the field goals made record by senior Kevin Ludwig (7).
The Westminster Blue Jays won the coin toss and deferred to the second half. The Blue Jays held the Minnesota-Morris Cougars to three-and-out, and on the first offensive play of the game for the Blue Jays, Adams rushed 60 yards for a touchdown. Ludwig's PAT was good, giving the Blue Jays a 7-0 lead just 1:03 into the game.
The Blue Jay defense held the Cougars to another three-and-out drive, and a 64-yard touchdown pass from freshman quarterbackEain Roberts to freshman Peair Howard to take a 13-0 lead. Ludwig hit his second PAT of the game, giving the Blue Jays the 14-0 advantage with 11:51 on the clock.
The Blue Jays scored again in the beginning of the second half after Williams returned the Cougar's punt 46 yards to their one-yard line. Adams finished the job, running it in two yards for a touchdown. Ludwig hit the PAT, giving the team a 21-0 advantage.
The Cougars got on the board with 1:16 left in the half after a one-yard rushing touchdown. Their PAT was good, bringing the game to 21-7.
The Blue Jays scored on their second drive of the second half with a 3-yard rushing touchdown by Adams, breaking the season rushing touchdown record. Ludwig missed the PAT, leaving the score at 27-7.
On the Blue Jay's next drive, the Blue Jays managed to be 4th and 4 on the Cougar's 12-yard line. Ludwig went for the 30-yard field goal attempt and made it, tying the season record and taking a 30-7 lead to end the third quarter.
The Cougars continued their drive in the start of the fourth quarter and converted it into a 16-yard touchdown pass. They scored again on their next drive with a 46-yard touchdown pass to bring the game to 30-20, Westminster.
The Blue Jays turned around and put another touchdown on the board with Adam's fourth rushing touchdown of the game. Ludwig hit the PAT, giving the Blue Jays the 37-20 advantage.
Ludwig attempted a 52-yard field goal to break the season record, but was just to the left of the goal.
The Blue Jays ended the game with a sack by seniors Tanner Reid and Christian Houston.
Adams rushed for 216 yards with four touchdowns on the game, averaging 7 yards per rush. Roberts threw seven completions for 105 yards and one touchdown. Howard led the air game with 64 yards and a touchdown.
Ludwig averaged 31.2 yards per punt with one landing in the 20-yard line. He averaged 54.7 yards per kickoff with one touchback.
Senior Carlos Weeden Jr. led the defense with nine tackles, two pass breakups and an interception returned for 34 yards. Freshman Hagen Harrison recorded eight tackles. Oyesanya recorded 2.5 sacks for 11 yards and three tackles for a loss of 13 yards.
