Becker Soars Past Gallaudet

LEICESTER, Mass.- On a day when Becker College football paid tribute to one of the largest graduating classes the Hawks' steamrolled the Gallaudet Bison 58-6 in Eastern Collegiate Football Conference play for their fifth win of the season on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field. It's the second straight win for Becker  and extended the Hawks (5-3, 3-2 ECFC) home win streak to five games dating back to last season. The Bison fall to 0-7 on the year and 0-5 in conference play.

Becker also set a record for most points scored in a game with 58, the Hawks' previous record was 49 points scored vs. Mount Ida in 2005.

The Hawks were led by sophomore quarterback Nas Sinkfield-Shelton (New Rochelle, N.Y. / New Rochelle) who threw for 244 yards and 4 touchdowns, while seior wide receiver DeJan Dawkins (East Hartford, Conn. / Cheney Tech) caught five passes for 82 yards and a pair of scores. Senior defensive back Nicholas Sherman capped off his senior day with a pair of interceptions, including a 25-yard steal for a TD late in the third quarter.

The Hawks outgained Gallaudet 453-114 in total yards, including a 279-99 advantage in the air and sacked Gallaudet quarterback Ramon Johnson seven times on the day.

Johnson threw for 99 yards on 17-33 pass attempts with 3 interceptions and teammate Kahan Louissanint ran for 37 yards in the contest for the Bison.

The Hawks controlled the tempo for the entire game. Senior running back Matthew Romasco (Port St. Lucie, Fla/Port St. Lucie) got the Hawks on the board with a smooth 5-yard run just 2:29 into the game and Dawkins rounded out the quarter scoring with a 16-yard TD reception from Sinkfield-Shelton.

Becker would add three scores in the second quarter to hold and 30-0 advantage heading into the locker room. Sinkfield-Shelton would find Ryan McCarthy for 19-yards to start the quarter and Dawkins over the middle for a 45-yard score to push the lead to 27-0. Sherman notched his first interception with one minute remaining in the half; the pick would lead to a 33-yard field goal by Jacob Holmes to round out the first half.

The Hawks scored three more times in the third quarter including a 2-yard run from junior running bacj Brandon Mullings (Naples, Fla. / Gulf Coast)  and Sherman's interception to move the scoreboard to 51-0. Gallaudet broke up the shutout on the ensuing kickoff when Carneilus Smith scored with a 91-yard return to the end zone.

Defensively for the Hawks, senior Snider  Saint-Vil (Palm Coast, Fla. / Flager) racked up a pair of sacks and  a team-high 6.5 tackles,  freshman linebacker Joseph Linnehan (Dedham, Ma / Dedham) added six tackles and a sack and junior linebacker Anthony Kaplan (Yorktown Heights, NY / Lakeland) added a pair of sacks.

Freshman Louie Akuffo led the Bison with a game-high 10.5 tackles and Richard Harty and Carneilus Smith each contributed with six stops.

The Hawks hit the road for the last two games of the season. Next Saturday Becker will travel to Castleton State University for a noontime tilt, while Gallaudet will host ECFC rival Anna Maria College at 12:00 p.m.
