St. Scholastica Routs Crown in Shutout Win

ST. BONIFACIUS, Minn. (csssaints.com) – The St. Scholastica football team cruised over Crown College Saturday afternoon in a 45-0 shutout victory for its third straight UMAC win.
 
First Half                                                                   
The Saints came out swinging in the first quarter scoring on its first two possessions. The first score came when quarterback Dakota Paulson completed a 31 yard strike to Preston Robinson to put CSS up 7-0 after the point after by Donovan Blatz.
 
The second touchdown of the first quarter came again at the hands of Robinson, this time on the ground, from two yards out, and less than five minutes into the game CSS had propelled themselves to a 13-0.
 
After a Brady Fish interception and two forced punts by the CSS defense, the Saints would strike again in the second quarter. Mitch Ejnik took a poor punt by Crown and returned it 27 yards for the third score of the game putting St. Scholastica in front 20-0 early in the second quarter.
 
The Saints would score two more times before halftime. First on a Kyle Stepka 10-yard touchdown pass to Hunter Thompson, and second on a Mike Mensing 20-yard touchdown pass to Shane Finnegan.
 
When halftime finally did roll around, the scoreboard read a big Saints lead of 33-0.
 
Second Half
The Saints would add two more touchdowns in the second half. Mensing would throw his second touchdown pass of the game in the third quarter, this time to James Fuerniss to make the score 39-0, then the fourth CSS quarterback Earl Butler would run the ball in from 29 yards out early in the fourth quarter to make the score 45-0.
 
The Saints would ride out the rest of the game on the ground en route to a 45-0 victory.

CSS Leaders
CSS would use four quarterbacks in the game to throw for a combined 211 yards and four touchdowns, while Robinson led the way on the ground with 117 yards and a touchdown to go with 43 receiving yards and a TD through the air as well. Nine different receivers caught a pass and eight different Saints recorded a rushing statistic. Ejnik had two interceptions, a fumble recovery and that punt return for a score. Mason Bloomquist and Alex Mangan each had seven tackles to lead the defense.

Crown Leaders
Josh Edlund ran for 72 yards. Trey Peace had five receptions for 65 yards. Chris Strange and Jalen Phoenix each had 10 tackles.
