Big Blue Football Knocks Off Elmhurst

          The Millikin University football team knocked off Elmhurst College 21-14 on November 8 at Frank M. Lindsay Field in Decatur, Illinois.

          After a scoreless first quarter, Millikin put up 14 points in the second quarter and took a 14-0 advantage into the locker room at the half.

          Millikin's first score came on a 32 yard touchdown pass from quarterback Nick Pippin to Brady Cufaude.  Millikin then scored on its next possession when Pippin found tight end Kyle Leadlove in the back of the end zone on a four yard touchdown pass.

          Elmhurst cut the Millikin lead in half on its first drive of third quarter when quarterback Joe Camiliere hit Garrett Claxon on a seven yard touchdown pass.

          Millikin answered right back on its next possession capping a four play 74 yard drive on a Pippin to Avante Meriweather 17 yard pass.  The score was set up by a 41 yard Pippin to Cufaude pass.

          Elmhurst opened the fourth quarter with a 75 yard pass from Camiliere to Kaylon Miller to make it 21-14 Big Blue.

          With just under four minutes left in the game a five yard run by Camiliere gave Elmhurst a second and five from the Big Blue nine yard line.  A Josh Williams run gave the Bluejays at third and one from the five yard line.  The Millikin defense then came up big stopping two Camiliere quarterback sneaks short of first down yardage.  Matt Madrigal, Jake Gates and Lavante Smith led the Millikin charge to stop the Bluejays on downs.

          Elmhurst had 346 yards of total offense with Millikin gaining 291.

          Pippin was 11-20-1 for Millikin for 139 yards and three touchdowns.  Cufaude was the Big Blue's leading receiver with five catches for 91 yards.  Millikin had an effective rushing attack led by Jacoby Sims with 73 yards on 16 carries and senior Justin Brooks gaining 54 yards on 10 carries.

          Camiliere was 12-18 for 141 yards and rushed for 67 yards.  Williams rushed for 135 yards on 32 carries.

          Mykal Neal and senior Andy Roth led the Millikin defense with 10 tackles each.  Roth also had a pass break-up.  Nikia Averitte had nine tackles and Chase Robbins and Jake Gates each had eight with one tackle for a loss.

          Brian Tucker led the Bluejays defense with 10 stops.

          Millikin is now 3-6, 1-5 while Elmhurst goes to 5-4, 4-2.

          Millikin will conclude the 2014 season with a road game at Augustana College in Rock Island, Illinois on November 15 at 1 p.m.
