Bridgewater State's Alex McLaughlin Named MASCAC Football Rookie of the Week

BRIDGEWATER, Mass. – Bridgewater State University freshman running back Alex McLaughlin has been selected as the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) Football Rookie of the Week.

McLaughlin rushed for a season-high 103 yards and a touchdown in the Bears' 24-0 Homecoming Game win over Plymouth State University on Saturday.  The Littleton, Massachusetts product averaged 9.4 yards on 11 carries and scored on a 15-yard run.

In six games this season, McLaughlin has rushed for 158 yards and four touchdowns as he is averaging 5.4 yards per carry.  He is also averaging 18.3 yards on 11 kickoff returns and ranks fourth on the team with 382 all-purpose yards.

The BSU football team is currently 3-4 on the season and 2-3 in the MASCAC.  The Bears travel to conference rival Westfield State University on Saturday for a two o'clock game with the Owls.
