Illinois Wesleyan Loses 7-2 Game to Augustana

BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - The annual Homecoming football game at Illinois Wesleyan was spoiled with a 7-2 loss to Augustana. The Titans slipped to 3-3 overall and 1-2 in the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin.

Augustana is now 2-4 overall and also 1-2 in the league as they handed IWU its second straight homefield loss this season.

The Titans' only score was on a safety when sophomore linebacker Sean Garvey made a tackle in the Viking end zone with 6:24 to play in the game.

IWU had 316 yards of total offense compared to 235 for Augustana. Sophomore starting quarterback Donavan Laible completed 18 of 35 passes for 205 yards and was intercepted twice. He also ran for a team-high 59 yards on 16 carries.

Junior Artie Checchin rushed for 25 yards on three carries and made three catches for 34 yards. IWU's top receiver was Adam Muellers, who made three grabs for 52 yards. Andrew Javorka (36 yards) and junior Anfernee Roberts (20 yards) also had three receptions each and Roberts scampered for 21 yards on 13 carries.

IWU was tagged with 11 penalties for 95 yards in the game while the Vikings were penalized three times for 30 yards.

Illinois Wesleyan was led defensively by senior linebacker Connor Klein, who made 11 total tackles (eight solo) with two quarterback sacks for -14 yards. Garvey made eight total stops and Ben Bouie had seven tackles with one tackle for loss and a pass breakup.

Augustana's lone score came with 2:01 to play in the first quarter when junior quarterback Sam Frasco ran in from 11 yards out. Frasco ran for 97 net yards on 22 carries and threw for 39 yards on 6-of-10 tries.

What's Next?
The Titans are home again next Saturday, Oct. 25, for a 1 p.m. kickoff against Elmhurst. The Bluejays are 4-2 overall and 3-0 in the CCIW after a 28-0 win at home over North Park on Oct. 18.
