Benedictine Drops Homecoming Contest

LISLE, Ill. - The Benedictine University football team held Adrian College to a season low total for points but suffered a 23-6 loss in the homecoming contest on Saturday.

The Eagles could not overcome seven turnovers in the contest. The first quarter was quiet with neither team able to push across any points. Benedictine saw a 13-play drive stall at the Adrian 12-yard line with 5:25 remaining in the first.

The visitors opened the second quarter with a quick strike, coverting on a 52-yard pass play to take a 7-0 lead with 14:33 remaining in the half. Benedictine countered with a 75-yard drive to battle within 7-6. Ryan Keener used a pair of big pass plays to find Jesse Kilbourn for 24 yards and Greg Sims for 33 on consecutive plays. The drive finished on a seven-yard pass to Greg German in the endzone with 11:15 remaining in the second. Adrian followed with a 12-play drive, resulting in a 23-yard field goal to take a 10-6 lead, which would be the score at the break.

A pair of turnovers in the third enabled Adrian to extend the advantage to 20-6 with 10 points off miscues. Benedictine twice moved onto the visiting side of the field in the quarter, stalling both times. Adrian kicked a third field goal midway through the fourth to account for the final and used a drive of over seven minutes to almost run out the clock.

Benedictine managed just 56 yards rushing among 241 total yards. Keener completed 11 passes for 146 yards and a score. Luke Ludolph converted on five attempts and also ran for 23 yards. Anthony Mitchell rushed for 55 yards on 18 carries. Max Seibert reeled in eight passes for 79 yards.

Jarrett Lecas and Niko Paaloalo racked up 11 tackles each. Lecas snared an interception on the first paly of the game. Andrew Soulis also reached double digit stops with 10, a fumble recovery, and the lone sack of the night.

Benedictine (0-3) takes a week off before traveling to Michigan to meet Kalamazoo College on October 4 at 12:00 p.m.
