Gallaudet stung by Rochester on the road

More news about: Gallaudet

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – A safety put Gallaudet University on the scoreboard first Saturday afternoon on the road against University of Rochester but the Yellowjackets outscored the Bison, 30-0, in the final three quarters en route to a 30-2 victory.

Gallaudet (0-2) ran the ball 48 times for 132 yards on the ground and held the ball for nearly 33 minutes but penalties (10 for 85 yards) and turnovers (two fumbles in the first half) did in the Bison in the non-conference game.

Rochester running back Myles Allen ran the ball 17 times for 113 yards and scored two touchdowns in the third quarter as the Yellowjackets (2-0) broke open a game they led 9-2 at halftime.

Sophomore Devante Walters (Rockdale, Ga.) sacked Rochester quarterback Jordan Golinowski (18 for 26, 169 yards) for a loss of five yards into the Yellowjackets' end zone for the safety at the 5:35 mark in the first quarter.

Gallaudet had the chance to increase its lead at the start of the second quarter when the Bison went for it on 4th and 1 at the Rochester 3 but they lost two yards and turned the ball over on downs as they clung to the 2-0 lead.

Two Bison possessions later, GU was backed up on its own 3 in the second quarter but junior running back BJ Flores (Raymondville, Texas) fumbled as Rochester defensive end Colin Woods recovered the ball in the end zone for the touchdown. Rochester missed the point after attempt as they led 6-2 with 5:20 left in the second quarter. Flores finished the game with 41 rushing yards on 15 carries.

Gallaudet's other first half turnover occurred on the first possession of the game when freshman Joell Dixon (Clinton, Md.) fumbled a punt return at his own 41 which gave the Yellowjackets new life after being forced off the field after three plays to start the game. The Bison defense held its own after seven more plays as Rochester went for it on 4th and 2 at the Gallaudet 16 and Nick Perpignan was stuffed by senior linebacker Jaris Alleyne (Waldorf, Md.) and Robbie Owens (Waldorf, Md.).

Alleyne led the Bison defense with nine tackles while Toby Canterbury (Chicago, Ill.) had eight tackles (six solos) and senior linebacker Gregg McConville(Frederick, Md.) added eight tackles and two tackles for a loss of five yards and had a half sack for a loss of three yards.
