Stout's Aaron Jenny scored three TDs as Blue Devils tip Loras, 21-17

More news about: UW-Stout

MENOMONIE (September 13, 2014) - The last time Aaron Jenny scored 18 points was last February at UW-Platteville, but that was on the basketball court. Jenny hauled in three touchdown receptions Saturday to lead UW-Stout to a 21-17 win over Loras College at Don and Nona Williams Stadium.

With similarities to the Green Bay Packers' Jordy Nelson, Jenny leapt high for the passes by quarterback Aaron Koerner, and all three TD catches were made in the end zone. Jenny, a former Blue Devil all-conference basketball selection, made a one-handed grab on his second TD score to give Stout (1-1) a 13-7 lead with two minutes left in the second quarter.

After Loras (1-1) took the lead, 14-13, early in the third quarter, Jenny grabbed his third TD pass from Koerner at 7:46 of the period to give Stout a 21-14 lead, a lead they would not give up, but had to work to maintain.

The Duhawks drove 65 yards in seven plays, but had to settle for a 27-yard Mason Quigley field goal to pull to within 21-17 with about six minutes left in the third quarter, in what would prove to be the final score.

Neither team scored the rest of the way, but both teams' defenses rose to the occassion over and over again. No fourth quarter drives lasted more than seven plays. The Duhawks threatened with three minutes remaining i nthe game, moving the ball to the Stout 3 before Alec Zoern recovered a funble in the end zone.

The Stout defense had a bend but don't break mentality. Holding a 13-0 lead, the Blue Devils gave up a touchdown with just over a minute left int he first half as Loras marched 75 yards to score, capped off by Nate Even's first TD reception of the game, an 11-yard cathc. The Duhawks scored to take the lead on their second possession of the second half, going 73 yards in four plays, capped off by Even's 44-yard TD reception. Even finished the day with 12 receptions for 238 yards.

The Duhawks tallied 354 total yards, getting 381 yards through the air. Dylan Jones was 27-of-49 with an interception and the two TDs. But the Blue Devil offense allowed no running game to the Duhawks, which finished with minus-27 yards rushing. Jones was thrown for losses of 31 yards as Stout recorded four sacks. The Duhawks' leading rusher was Nate Carrier, who had no reoom all day, picking up five yards on 14 carries.

The Blue Devils tallied 250 total yards, 173 by passing, 77 by rushing. Koerner was sacked sic times for minue-38 yards. Making his first collegiate start, Koerner completed 16-of-31 passes for all 173 yards. He was intercepted twice. Jenny finished with eight catches for 107 yards. Cody Rosemeyer had seven cathces for 58 yards.

Stout punted the ball 11 times, and Loras punted the ball nine times. Loras was flagged for 10 penalties for 101 yards and Stout was whistled 11 times for 121 yards.

Stout will be at Wartburg College, Saturday, Sept. 20 for a 7 p.m. contest.
