Two Fourth Quarter TDs Rally Rochester Past Alfred State

ALFRED, N.Y. – Quarterback Jordan Golinowski engineered two scoring drives midway through the fourth quarter to help the University of Rochester post a 35-21 football victory over Alfred State University on Saturday afternoon.

He took the Yellowjackets (1-0) 82 yards in nine plays covering less than 3:30 to push Rochester ahead, 28-21, then followed that with a seven-play, 46-yard drive in less than three minutes for the final margin.

In his first career start, Golinowski threw for 188 yards, hitting 18 of 25 passes with one TD and one interception. He was sacked once.

The TD pass was a 28-yard strike to Farid Adenuga in the right corner of the end zone with 11 minutes remaining. That put Rochester ahead, 26-21, and Golinowski followed it with a two-point pass to Kyle Allegrini for a seven-point margin.

Rochester's defense stiffened, holding the Pioneers (0-2) to a three-and-out. The Yellowjackets got the ball back at their own 46 and marched in for the clinching score. Nick Perpignan gained 31 yards on three carries to push the ball to the 15. A sweep by David Angie gained nine to set up first and goal. Myles Allen carried three straight times, finally pushing in from the two. Andrew Haber's PAT made it 35-21.

The Yellowjackets totaled 427 yards – 218 on the ground, 209 through the air. Perpignan carried the ball 20 times for a career-best 91 yards and one score – a one-yard run in the third quarter that put Rochester ahead, 20-7. Allen rushed 20 times for 73 yards.

Alfred State totaled 335 yards in offense – 204 through the air, 131 on the ground. Rasheed Williams rushed 20 times for 130 net yards and two TDs. His 10-yard run early in the second quarter tied the score at 7-7. He burst through the middle for an 80-yard scoring run on ASC's first play of the fourth quarter. That capped a 14-point run by the Pioneers and put the hosts ahead, 21-20.

Rochester's other scores were a 16-yard run by Shane Saucier in the first quarter (7-0) and an 11-yard TD pass from Dan Bronson to Allegrini early in the third.

It was 7-7 at halftime. Bronson took Rochester 70 yards in 14 plays to open the second half. Perpignan's TD capped an eight-play, 45-yard drive with 5:10 left in the third. Haber missed the PAT on that drive, leaving Rochester up, 20-7.

Alfred State quarterback Ben Wilkerson directed an eight-play, 77-yard drive in less than four minutes. His 21-yard scoring pass to Erik Simmons and the PAT by Keegan Phelan drew ASC within 20-14.Wilkerson finished 19 of 34 for 204 yards and one TD. He was sacked three times.

Rochester drove to the Alfred State 39 and stalled. Jeff Weinfeld punted into the end zone. On first down, Williams burst through the middle and sped away from defenders on his 80-yard scoring run. Phelan's PAT put ASC ahead, 21-20.

On the ensuing drive, Golinowski hit five of six passes. The incompletion was juggled and off the hands of Adenuga who was trying to find his footing behind the ASC defense on a second-and-one from midfield. Three plays later, they did connect, this time for what turned out to be eight points.

Notes: The Rochester defense forced six three-and-outs and seven punts overall… Colin Woods, Matt Pisano, and Isaiah Smith had sacks.,.. Woods totaled three tackles for loss of 12 yards and a QB hurry… Four players had pass breakups… The revamped offensive line allowed only one sack and one QB hurry.
