Turnovers costly for Macalester

Macalester lost possession five times by turnovers (three fumbles and two interceptions) and fell to Mayville State (N.D.) 26-18 in the home-opener Saturday night in St. Paul.  The Scots fall to 2-2 on the season, while the Comets improve to 3-3.

 

Mac received good production in the running game from Zandy Stowell (So., Chippewa Falls, Wis.), who finished with 138 yards on 24 carries for a 5.8 average.  Quarterback Samson Bialostok (Jr, North Woodmere, N.Y. / Lawrence) added 60 yards in rushing production, running for one touchdown and passing 34 yards for a touchdown to John Johnson (Sr., McKenzie, Tenn.).

 

Ryan Fleming (So., Charlotte, Vt. / Champlain Valley Union)  led the Macalester defense by registering 12 tackles and returning an interception 46 yards, while Adam Ward (Sr., Rochester, Minn. / Mayo) was in on nine stops, including a couple for loss of yardage.  Fleming now leads the team with 37 tackles through the season's first four games.

 

Dominique Bradley ran for 87 yards and a score and Jerril Jenkins added 86 yards rushing to lead Mayville State.  The Comets out-gained the Scots in total yardage 319-301, with both teams gaining most of their yardage on the ground.

 

The Scots play host to Carleton next Saturday (Oct. 12) at 1 p.m.
