Lammy, Downing lead Blueboys to 56-20 win over Lawrence

Dakota Lammy ran for 160 yards and two scores and Branden Downing caught a pair of touchdown passes Saturday as Illinois College ran away with a 56-20 win over visiting Lawrence University.

Quarterback Michael Bates threw for 315 yards and five touchdowns in the win. Davis Kinville and Mike Tonry also ran for touchdowns. Kevin Wallace, Kevin Fuller and Colin Duling hauled in touchdown passes.

"The kids did a great job. Whenever Lawrence made a play, we made a play," said Illinois College head coach Garrett Campbell. "This was a good win. It was another solid defensive performance."

IC got on the board first when Bates connected with Downing on a 26-yard pass. Wallace was up next, hauling in an 18-yard touchdown strike. Lammy and Kinville scored on short runs early in the second quarter before Bates found Fuller on a 26-yard pass with just one second remaining in the first half.

Bates hooked up with Duling on a 19-yard pass late in the third quarter before finding Downing again, this time on a 77-yard catch-and-run, early in the fourth. Tonry scored the first touchdown of his collegiate career halfway through the fourth to conclude the scoring.

IC racked up 613 yards of total offense, helping to overcome four turnovers and over 130 yards of penalties. The Blueboys allowed 297 yards of total offense. The IC defense forced three turnovers and tallied six sacks.

Michael Ray led the defense with 10 tackles. Joe Gaines and Dylan DeFauw made interceptions. Demetrious Baylis registered two sacks, while Carter Cox, Kurt Frischman and Zack Meyer added one each. Frischman and Adam Hickson forced fumbles.

Illinois College improved to 4-0 overall and 3-0 in the Midwest Conference with the win. The Blueboys travel to Lake Forest College next Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. start.
