ALLIANCE, OHIO – The Otterbein Cardinals fell to No. 2 ranked Mount Union, 42-0, Saturday at Mount Union Stadium.

The loss drops the Cardinals to 2-6 overall, 1-6 in the Ohio Athletic Conference (OAC). Meanwhile, Mount Union remains the OAC leader at 7-0, 8-0 overall.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie in the first quarter. The Cardinals outgained the Purple Raiders 96-to-56 total yards, while the defense had two sacks and forced two Mount Union punts.

Mount Union opened things up in the second. The Purple Raiders scored 28 points on three rushing touchdowns and one passing. Junior running back Blair Skilliter sprinted for a 53-yard touchdown while junior Jeremy Murray scored on runs of four and one yard. Junior Matt Piloto connected with classmate Shannon Stewart to make the score 28-0 at the half.

The Raiders scored 14 points in the second half to conclude the game.

Senior wide receiver Trey Fairchild, the NCAA Division III leader in all-purpose yards, finished the afternoon with 77 receiving yards on five catches and 116 yards on five kick returns (193 total yards).

Senior quarterback Austin Schlosser threw for 140 yards on 15 of 29 attempts with three interceptions. Schlosser had his streak of nine-straight games with a touchdown pass snapped. The last time he went a game without a touchdown pass was Oct. 30, 2010 against Mount Union.

Senior linebacker Shane Centers led the defensive effort, registering a game-high 16 tackles.

Senior defensive back Anthony Korpieski, who led the OAC in interceptions last season, picked off his first pass of 2011 to go with seven tackles.

The Cardinals return to Westerville for their final two games of the season. Next week the Cardinals host Marietta. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30.
