Royals Hold St. Thomas to 10 Points In Defensive Battle

ST. PAUL, Minn. - The # 20 Royals held #4 St. Thomas to only 10 points today in a defensive battle that ended in favor of the Tommies 10-6. 

In front of a large crowd at O'Shaughnessy Stadium the Royals were able to hold the Tommies out of the endzone the entire first half only giving up a field goal. The Royals offense got a huge boost from sophomore Kevin Lindh (Houston, Minn.) who broke away on a 52 yard touchdown run with just over 9 minutes to play in the third quarter. At that point the Royals took the lead 6-3. 

The Royals held the lead until just over the 5 minute mark in the third quarter when St. Thomas drove the ball down and scored off a 5 yard run by Colin Tobin.

From that point it was all defense. Looking at the stats the Royals were able to rack up 321 yards of total offense in comparison to the Tommies 253. The Royals also had 19 first downs to the Tommies 14.

Senior Logan Flannery (Lakeville, Minn.) ran for 141 yards on 26 attempts for an average of 5.4 yards per carry. On the defensive side of the ball the Royals got key contributions fromBilly Morgan (Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) with 8 tackles, and Ethan Anderson (Jr., Mapleton, Minn.) who had 7 tackles. Anderson also had a key interception at the end of the first half to prevent a St. Thomas touchdown.

They Royals are now 6-1 on the season and will return home next week to face Concordia College. The Cobbers are 4-4 overall with a 3-3 record in the MIAC.
