Flannery Guides Royals Past Carleton 55-20

NORTHFIELD, Minn. - Lead by senior running back Logan Flannery(Lakeville, Minn.) the Royals cruised by Carleton College on Saturday. The game opened conference play for Bethel's 2010 season. The Knights were able to stay within 8 points going into half time but the Royals blew the doors off in the second half, finishing the game 55-20.

During the first half Carleton was first to find the end zone on a 1 yard run by Jon Lien. The Royals responded putting up 14 points on two rushing touchdowns before the quarter came to an end. The Royals first touchdown came on a 29 yard run by Kevin Lindh(So., Houston, Minn.). Then with six seconds left in the first quarter Flannery punched one in from 2 yards out, making the score at the end of the quarter 14-7.

During the second quarter the Knights put up 13 more points, and those would be their last of the game. The royals matched their score from the first quarter putting up 14 more points, with two more rushing touchdowns by Lindh and Flannery. 

Flannery and Lindh both rushed for three touchdowns on the day, combining for 316 yards of offense on the ground. Flannery had the longest run of the game during a monster run of 49 yards for a touchdown in the third quarter.

Coming out for the second half the Royals were able to completely shutout the Knights forcing them to 6 three and out situations. The Royals also controlled the clock through out the second half, with almost eight more minutes time of possession than Carleton.

Ross Petterson (Sr., Maple Grove, Minn.) lead the defense with 7 tackles. Other key defensive plays came from Billy Morgan (Jr., Rosemount, Minn.) and Cory Svihla (Sr., Foley, Minn) who had sacks for 7 and 8 yards respectively. David Vavra (Jr., Cambridge, Minn.) and Mike Sedjo (Jr., West Chicago, Ill.) also caused headaches for the Knights, each grabbing an interception.

The Royals have a bye next week and then will be traveling back to Northfield on October 2nd to battle St. Olaf.
