More news about: DePauw

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — DePauw senior quarterback Michael Engle equaled a school record with six touchdown passes and the defense limited Rose-Hulman to just 84 yards in the first three quarters as the Tigers took a 45-16 win over the visiting Engineers in the season opener for both squads.

DePauw\'s Ryan Preuss intercepted Rose-Hulman\'s Mitch Snyder on the Engineers\' first possession of the game and six plays later Engle tossed a 7-yard scoring pass to all-America receiver Alex Koors.

The Engineers drove into DePauw territory on their next possession before DePauw\'s Ryan Woodard blocked Nick Schneider\'s 34-yard field goal try. The teams exchanged punts before Engle and Nathan Evans teamed for a 9-yard score to push the DePauw lead to 14-0 with 9:58 left in the first half.

Engle and Evans made it 21-0 just less than six minutes later on a 5-yard scoring pass before the Engineers got on the board with Schneider\'s 35-yard field goal with only 1:55 left in the half. DePauw wasted little time with a 9-play, 72-yard drive capped by Engle\'s 12-yard pass to Jon Ellis. with only 14 seconds remaining in the half.

The Tigers scored on their opening drive of the second half as Eric Malm booted a 35-yard field goal and added touchdowns on each of their next two series as Engle connected with Bobby Coburn on a 1-yard score and with Koors for a 12-yarder.

Rose-Hulman scored its two touchdowns late as Kyle Kovach ran in one from four yards to wrap up a 98-yard drive and Snyder tossed an 11-yard pass to Terrae Hall with 1:10 remaining.

DePauw outgained Rose-Hulman in total offense, 478-252, and held a 26-15 edge in first downs. Engle completed 26-of-36 passes for 300 yards in just his second career start. He tied the school mark of six TD passes set by Spud Dick against Rhodes last year.

Koors hauled in nine for 145 yards and extended his streak of at least one catch to 30 games. Brayden Dahlstrom caught five for 55 yards. The Tigers totaled 128 rushing yards paced by Derrick Karazsia's 62 in 14 attempts.

Snyder completed 16-of-26 for 151 yards and a score but was intercepted twice. Reed Eason caught seven for 90 yards and also completed a 38-yarder. Calvin Bueltel rushed for 54 yards in 13 carries.

Jonathan Lambert paced DePauw\'s defense with six tackles, while Eric Vogel recorded the only sack. In addition to an interception, Steve Valdiserri broke up three other passes.

Jordan Martin led the Engineers with 12 tackles and Andrew Couch added a sack.
DePauw opens its final season of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play on Saturday, September 18, as it travels to Centre for a 7:30 p.m. contest and Rose-Hulman hosts Kalamazoo.
