See you in Salem!

The Amos Alonzo Stagg Bowl has found a home in Salem, Va., for the past 20 years. And for the past decade or so, it’s played host to one of the best tailgate parties in Division III as well.

Division III is fortunate that one of the top tailgates in Division III is just up the highway a bit. A group of Bridgewater fans, whose tailgate is known as Stone Station, have been making the trip to the Stagg Bowl and laying out a great spread for all Division III football fans.

The Stagg Bowl is not just a home for fans of Mount Union and UW-Whitewater, honestly. It’s close enough to be a day trip for fans of dozens of Division III schools. Here’s how the tailgate lines up for this season:

Look for Hal Duff, Peggy and Chris Erwin, Dennis Wakeman and Gene Schatz and their spread this year: fried turkey, fried seasoned chips, sweet and sour meatballs, homemade mac and cheese, baked beans, BBQ, coleslaw, ham sandwiches, low country boil, bacon cheese casserole dish and a few other side dishes around 1 p.m. (Don't doubt their D-III fan credentials: Two of them are parents of Division III playoff quarterbacks!)

Now there’s no charge, but D3sports.com will be helping sponsor the spread and donations will also be accepted, with the remainder going to an underprivileged local school.

Meanwhile, D3football.com will be broadcasting its annual Tailgate Show live from the Salem Stadium parking lot. That includes the annual announcement of the D3football.com All-America team. Show starts at 5 p.m. ET, and continues with our 15th annual audio broadcast of the Stagg Bowl.

Plus, the weather forecast for game day calls for a high of 60 degrees!

If you’re a UW-Whitewater fan, or took a year off from the Stagg Bowl for some other reason, come on back. Salem awaits.
