Virginia is
for Raiders
SALEM — They don't want to be called a dynasty, but the Mount Union Purple Raiders rolled past Trinity (Texas) 48-7 to win Stagg Bowl XXX. It's their third consecutive national title, their sixth in seven seasons and their seventh overall.
The win prompts some to ask the age-old question: Is it time for Mount Union to move out of Division III?
Dan Pugh was named Most Outstanding Player of the championship game, the third consecutive year it's gone to a Mount Union running back. He ran a Stagg Bowl-record 49 times for 253 yards and four touchdowns. The box score.
