Stagg Bowl XI
Augustana 21, Union 17
Dec. 1, 1983, in Kings Island, Ohio

Norm Singbush caught two fourth-quarter touchdown passes in the victory.

Augustana (12-0) rallied from a 10-point fourth-quarter deficit, scoring two touchdowns in the final 10 minutes to defeat Union and win the 1983 Division III football championship.

Tight end Norm Singbush caught passes of 10 and 2 yards from quarterback Jay Penney, the go-ahead score with 3:09 left.

Union jumped out to a 10-0 lead in the first five minutes behind a Greg Sticka 30-yard field goal and a 45-yard touchdown pass from Dan Stewart to Frank Kraft.

Penney hit Singbush from 10 yards away with 9:30 left in the game to trim the margin to 17-14. Augustana defensive back Doug McCoy then made a phenomenal play to strip Dutchmen receiver Winston Britton of the ball and linebacker Joe Wheeler fell on it at the Union 46 and the Vikings were back in business. Penney marched his team down the field and hit Singbush on a fourth-and-goal situation from the two with 3:09 to give Augustana its only lead of the game.

Union (11-1) drove to the Augustana 17-yard line but failed on three passes in a row and Augustana ran out the clock.
